The Early Days

Process Was Always the Superpower

Michael Tirrell — "Abe" to anyone who's worked with him — didn't take a straight path. He wasn't the kid with a 4.0. He was the kid who picked up every stick in the yard, because his dad said to pick up sticks and he was going to do it right.

That same wiring showed up everywhere. At GameStop at 18, he wasn't just selling games — he was redesigning the morning ordering process, streamlining bank deposits, and running the store solo on open-and-close shifts. At a shipping dock, he invented a color-coded stickering system so anyone could look at a pallet and know exactly what was QA'd, what needed plating, and what was ready to ship.

The pattern was always the same: here's the outcome we need, here's how we do it today, and here's how to get there faster, cheaper, or with higher quality.

Give me a task and I will execute on it. As I got better at understanding valuable outcomes, I just knew — if I worked on something, I could make it more efficient.

The Smartsheet Discovery

When a Quarter-Million Dollar Failure Led to Something Better

By the time Michael moved into R&D engineering in the automotive space, he was managing the full lifecycle — product design, prototyping, tooling, testing, QA, patent filings, production launch. He chaired the global patent review committee. He managed change requests that rippled across tooling, quality, purchasing, logistics, and customer service.

The company invested over $250,000 in an ERP system with a project management module. It was a complete failure.

So in 2013, Michael went looking for something better. Something cloud-based that could connect teams across states and countries. That's when he found Smartsheet — and became one of its earliest adopters, building process systems that spread from engineering to IP management to multiple departments across the organization.

He was also an early adopter of Smartsheet Control Center, recognizing its power to automate and standardize business processes, eliminate data duplication, and make workflows repeatable at scale. That operational depth — a career's worth of building, breaking, and refining — is what eventually became the foundation for the ROI Playbook and the Six Lenses of ROI framework that drives Four Score's work today.

It's 2013 — there's got to be something better than Excel that's cloud-based and allows different teams across different states and countries to collaborate, communicate, and be more efficient.

The Entrepreneurial Leap

From Side Hustle to Platinum Partner

Everywhere Michael went, he became the Smartsheet expert. The person teams called to build the process, design the workflow, fix the system. By 2019, he formalized what had been years of freelance consulting into Four Score Solutions LLC.

The name wasn't random. "Abe" had been his nickname for over a decade in the automotive world — a nod to the Lincoln legacy of honesty, persistence, and doing things the right way even when it's harder. Four Score became the brand that embodied those values: long-term thinking over quick fixes, structured clarity over vague promises, measurable outcomes over activity theater.

In 2020, he partnered with Aptude to build their Smartsheet practice, winning PPM Partner of the Year in 2021. But when Aptude was acquired in 2022 and growth was no longer in his hands, Michael made the call: go all-in on Four Score.

The bet paid off.

From First Client to Platinum

2013

First Smartsheet Implementation

Early adopter of Smartsheet and premium applications including Control Center. Built the first process systems in automotive R&D.

2019

Four Score Solutions Founded

Formalized years of freelance Smartsheet consulting into a legal entity. The Abe brand and Lincoln narrative took shape.

2021

PPM Partner of the Year

Won Smartsheet's PPM Partner of the Year award while building the Aptude practice from the ground up.

2023

Full-Time Commitment to FSS
